Audio System
In 2020, we majorly upgraded the audio system by replacing the old, outdated equipment with a JBL mixer amplifier and half a dozen new speakers on the pool deck and pavilion.
In 2024, we further enhanced the system by swapping out the two-zone mixer amplifier for an eight-zone unit and adding eight additional speakers in the restrooms and lobby. We also added a new mixer control unit at the front desk, improving audio processing to improve the clarity of PA announcements.
For music, we’ve subscribed to a business music provider for commercially licensed background music. We’ve also added new capabilities to support a wireless microphone system on the pavilion and club-wide audio distribution in preparation for League Meet later this summer.
Clubhouse
- Removed the shutters on the lobby and snack shack windows and replaced with new composite trim.
- We installed two new steel doors with louvers between the lobby and the men’s and women’s restrooms. This took a few rounds to get right and also involved some minor adjustments to the steel doors installed in 2023.
- Replaced the painted wood countertop outside the snack shack with a custom-cut marble slab.
- Installed a new key box for more controlled access to the facilities.
- Painted the steel doors installed this year and the year prior. Thanks to Anthony (Tony) Arbini for helping paint all the doors.
- Installed four new speakers in the lobby and in the family restroom as part of the Audio System upgrade.
- Patched and painted a couple of areas on the walls in the lobby.
Electrical/Network
- Disassembled and repaired both pedestal fans; installed new pull-chain switches and re-painted the grills. Thanks to Chris Ray for taking on this project!
- Installed a replacement network switch to replace equipment that had become unreliable.
- Installed new, modern-style battery-backed exit signs at the front and pool deck doors. The exit sign at the front door had been damaged beyond repair at some point during the off-season.
- Installed exterior wall-mounted digital signage (a TV) for the snack shack menu.
- Re-worked existing speaker wiring (added a junction box) per the relocation of the amplifier.
- Installed networked energy-monitoring systems on the basement panel (RLP-1) and clubhouse lobby panel (RLP-2) to monitor consumption on a per-panel and per-branch circuit basis.
Plumbing
- Installed a “hydrostat” (water temperature thermostat) on the domestic hot water re-circulation pump to address an issue where its use (without a hydrostat) could result in excessively hot water present at the taps (sinks/showers).
Grounds
- Installed two round patios and gas fire pits.
- Buried new drainage lines along the south perimeter of the pool deck.
- Added a river rock perimeter along the south end of the pool deck from the pump house to the pavilion. Added river rock along the south side of the pavilion just beyond the roof drip line, extending to the eastern-most grill. Thanks to the Anderson and Haddad families and the SHS boy’s swim team for their help digging trenches.
Large Pavilion
- Upgraded the large pavilion Access Point (AP) to support WiFi 6 (better performance).
- Installed a new centralized junction board for all large pavilion network wiring.
- Installed a new electrical receptacle box to support network equipment.
- Upgraded the “temporary” network switch to permanent status, with its new home on the junction board via a custom 3D-printed bracket. This “temporary” switch was originally located in the attic to support the camera for time-lapse photos of the pool renovation.
- Added a second bracket 3D-printed bracket for future expansion.
- Installed all new wiring for the speakers.
- Installed a WiFi to RF bridge to support automatic control of the ceiling fans.
- Added a camera to the southeast corner.
- Installed a weatherproof box with Ethernet drops on the south side of the pavilion for wireless microphone (Dante audio) and LAN access.
- Ran three network wires to the remaining corners for future camera installations.
Parking Lot
- Repaired the parking lot to fill the remnants of the hole left from the water line repair some time ago.
Patio
- Re-built all five grills with new internal parts. Re-painted the housings and installed new stainless steel shelving.
- Installed patio/bistro lights between the pavilions.
Pool
- Replaced underground 8-inch PVC piping that had broken (perhaps decades ago) to fix major leaks.
- Replaced the handrails in the baby/kiddie/shallow pool. Re-installed the underwater-side anchors after discovering they were installed at an angle (potentially to align with the previously bent rails). This required draining the pool.
- Patched two hydrostatic-relief holes left by the pool plastering contractor.
- Repaired the pool light in the northwest corner of the pool that the plastering contractor didn’t install properly. This has been a recurring issue – hopefully this time it’s for good.
- Re-installed two ladders near the diving well after concrete replacement.
Pool Deck
- Replaced large sections of concrete in two different areas.
- Removed and re-installed a section of fence near the foot wash per concrete replacement.
- Installed multiple new drains and installed/replaced underground drainage pipe to better address drainage in the areas near the pool deck entry gate (foot wash) and Funbrella.
- Installed a new anchor for the west end guard stand.
- Re-set four fence posts to address frost heaving.
- Installed new locks for all three gates.
- Replaced the seals in the north slide. Thanks to the Anderson family for their help with the disassembly.
Pump House
Chlorinator
We replaced the Accu-Tab chlorinator with a Pulsar Precision unit. This was done at no cost to the club in exchange for a two-year purchase agreement for chlorine. This mutually beneficial agreement between the club and our pool contractor should result in lower maintenance operations. Those who have followed the projects list may recall that numerous efforts have been made to make the prior unit more reliable over the years.
Other Pump House Work
- Replaced the boiler chimney to address deterioration and roof leaks. Thanks to Nick Carver.
- Restructured the south wall to address long-term rot and deterioration from water intrusion (addressed via the adjacent shed’s roof rebuild in 2021).
- In some areas, B&G stripped as many as three existing roof layers and then hired a contractor to install a new roof. Special thanks to David Dodge and his crew for helping with the clean-up and disposal.
- Patched multiple penetrations in the lower level (surge tank and exterior wall) to stop leaks. Success was limited – this will be revisited in early 2025.
- Installed a new steel exterior door and removed the remains of the broken concrete sil.
- Removed excess caulking and added additional caulking in preparation for paint.
Men’s and Women’s Restrooms
- Removed the vinyl baseboard trim throughout both restrooms (replacement material has been purchased – awaiting installation as of June).
- Installed new exhaust ventilation fans. These fans replaced a noisy old fan in the women’s room and a long-removed fan in the men’s room (removed years ago after it had failed). This project also involved cleaning up and replacing attic wiring.
- Removed four defunct exhaust fans, ductwork and wiring. Patched large ceiling holes.
- Installed four new speakers in the men’s and women’s rooms as part of the Audio System upgrade.
- Installed three new automatic soap dispensers and health department-compliant signage.
- Replaced the glass in three mirrors. Cleaned and re-anchored four above mirrors above the sinks.
- Re-anchored two partitions in the men’s restroom.
- Installed new valves, spray heads and other misc hardware in the shower boxes.
Small Pavilion
- Removed the existing surface-mounted conduit for the “ship lights” and receptacles. Removed the floodlight at the south end of the pavilion.
- Installed new wiring from the clubhouse to the small pavilion attic to support a dedicated receptacle circuit and three lighting circuits (two for the recessed lights and one for the patio/bistro lights).
- Installed 21 new recessed LED lights.
- Prepared and repainted the entire pavilion (soffit, fascia, ceiling, and posts).
